THE AUSTRALIAN RED CROSS CURRABUBULA BRANCH ART SHOW HISTORY

Welcome to The Australian Red Cross Currabubula Branch Art Show! Our journey began on the 21st of April 1943 when the Currabubula Branch of The Australian Red Cross was officially registered. Nestled in the charming Currabubula Hall, constructed in 1912, this historic venue has been the heart of our community and the annual Art Show.

Over the years, our branch has been a hub of activity, raising funds through a delightful array of events – from children's frolics to Melbourne Cup days, dances, and flower shows. It was in the 1960s, under the guidance of President Winsome Busby and a dedicated committee, that the Currabubula Branch Art Show took its first steps in May 1964. Thanks to the support of the Tamworth Art Society and the expertise of Harry and Betty Frost, the event attracted over 250 entries across five sections.

Since then, our Art Show has blossomed with unwavering support from talented artists, local media, and enthusiastic art buyers. The event not only showcases remarkable artworks but also delights attendees with exceptional catering, featuring the culinary talents of our local cooks.

A distinctive feature of our Art Show is the renowned judges we attract, and the substantial prize money awarded to artists. Over the decades, the event has been inaugurated by esteemed guests, ranging from Mayors and Local Members of Parliament to Archibald Prize winners and Art Gallery Directors.

Through the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s to the present day, the Art Show has evolved, drawing increasing numbers of paintings and visitors each year. Pottery and china painting have taken the spotlight at various times, adding diversity to our showcase. With over 2000 attendees annually, our Currabubula Branch consistently ranks among the top ten in NSW for fundraising.

When you step into the Art Show, take a moment to appreciate the walls of the Hall, ingeniously covered with 'holey' plasterboard to accommodate paintings at any spot. This transformation occurs every May, turning the Hall into an art lover's haven for four days.

In 2015, our efforts were nationally recognised with a Distinguished Team Award from The Australian Red Cross. The Currabubula Branch, consisting of approximately 40 members, transforms the historic Currabubula War Memorial Hall into an art extravaganza every May, attracting art lovers from across the country.

Our dedicated team, led by the Branch President, coordinates a well-structured effort involving painting coordinators, section coordinators, publicity volunteers, and hands-on volunteers from other Australian Red Cross branches. The collaboration and team spirit make this event possible, from receiving and hanging paintings to catering for thousands of visitors.

The enduring commitment of our long-serving members, some supporting the Art Show for over 40 years, is a testament to the event's enduring charm. The Currabubula Branch has not only enhanced the reputation of the Australian Red Cross but has also contributed over $500,000 to date.

As we look towards the future, our focus remains on fundraising efforts and ensuring the Currabubula Branch Art Exhibition continues to be a beacon for artists and art lovers locally and throughout Australia. Join us in celebrating over 60 years of remarkable achievements and contributions to the art community.
